Series in Materials Science and Engineering

About the Series

The series publishes cutting edge monographs and foundational textbooks for interdisciplinary materials science and engineering. It is aimed at undergraduate and graduate level students, as well as practicing scientists and engineers. Its purpose is to address the connections between properties, structure, synthesis, processing, characterization, and performance of materials. The subject matter of individual volumes spans fundamental theory, computational modeling, and experimental methods used for design, modeling, and practical applications. The series encompasses thin films, surfaces, and interfaces, and the full spectrum of material types, including biomaterials, energy materials, metals, semiconductors, optoelectronic materials, ceramics, magnetic materials, superconductors, nanomaterials, composites, and polymers.

New books in the series are commissioned by invitation. Authors are also welcome to contact the publisher (Carolina Antunes, Physics Editor: [email protected]) to discuss new title ideas.

1st Edition

Edited By Brian Cantor, P. Grant, C. Johnston
February 19, 2008

The current automotive industry faces numerous challenges, including increased global competition, more stringent environmental and safety requirements, the need for higher performance vehicles, and reducing costs. The materials used in automotive engineering play key roles in overcoming these ...

Strained-Si Heterostructure Field Effect Devices

Strained-Si Heterostructure Field Effect Devices

1st Edition

By C.K Maiti, S Chattopadhyay, L.K Bera
January 11, 2007

A combination of the materials science, manufacturing processes, and pioneering research and developments of SiGe and strained-Si have offered an unprecedented high level of performance enhancement at low manufacturing costs. Encompassing all of these areas, Strained-Si Heterostructure Field Effect...

3D Nanoelectronic Computer Architecture and Implementation

3D Nanoelectronic Computer Architecture and Implementation

1st Edition

Edited By D. Crawley, K. Nikolic, M. Forshaw
September 30, 2004

It is becoming increasingly clear that the two-dimensional layout of devices on computer chips hinders the development of high-performance computer systems. Three-dimensional structures will be needed to provide the performance required to implement computationally intensive tasks. 3-D ...

Computer Modelling of Heat and Fluid Flow in Materials Processing

Computer Modelling of Heat and Fluid Flow in Materials Processing

1st Edition

By C.P. Hong
June 01, 2004

The understanding and control of transport phenomena in materials processing play an important role in the improvement of conventional processes and in the development of new techniques. Computer modeling of these phenomena can be used effectively for this purpose. Although there are several books ...

High Pressure Surface Science and Engineering

High Pressure Surface Science and Engineering

1st Edition

Edited By Yury Gogotsi, V. Domnich
November 01, 2003

In many instances of mechanical interaction between two materials, the physicalcontact affects only the outermost surface layer, with little discernible influence on the bulk of the material. The resultant high pressures in these localised regimes can induce surface structural changes such as ...
