Foundations of Education Studies is a series of six books written specifically to support undergraduate education studies students. Each book provides a broad overview to a fundamental area of study exploring the key themes and ideas to show these relate to education. Accessibly written with chapter objectives, individual and group tasks, case studies and suggestions for further reading, the books in this series will give students an essential understanding of the key disciplines in education studies that will form the foundation for future study.
Rationale and aims:
The Education Studies subject area has grown considerably in recent years, as the number of QTS Education degrees shrinks. Proposed changes to teacher training are likely to increase this demand. Within this context, existing courses have increased recruitment and new programmes are continually being developed.
Collectively the Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology and Policy titles cover the key disciplines that are central to the study of education as an academic subject. The other two titles cover the applied elements that are fundamental to most education studies courses – working with children and young people and carrying out educational research.
The books will provide a broad overview of each topic and written at a level that is accessible for Year 1 undergraduates.
